D01: Fostering Great Experiences for UX-Tasked Student Workers
Library UX work can include conducting user research, analyzing data, managing stakeholder expectations, and making design recommendations. This can be overwhelming for solo UX librarians or small teams. In this session, learn how different institutions are utilizing student workers to assist with UX projects and providing them with great learning experiences. Hear the benefits, challenges, and success stories of student workers with UX responsibilities and how they can make a strategic difference in your library.

D02: Escape the data dungeon: Shedding light on strategies to share your findings
We explore how to share user research results with library colleagues, students, and faculty. Our goal is to report information in a meaningful and useful way, while providing transparency and presenting the Library positively. We want to communicate how we take action—that user feedback doesn’t disappear into a data dungeon. We offer a review of how university library websites report findings publicly. We present successes and failures of sharing our work internally and externally.

D06: Investigation of Linked Data Potential in Libraries Using Kano Model: Results of a Two-Part Study
In August 2017 we invited library email list subscribers to complete a survey requesting descriptions of website/catalog features made possible as a result of switching to linked data based technology; in our talk we will go into some detail about this process of distilling a feature list from the survey responses.  We will then describe how we used the Kano model method to measure how these features resonate with staff and patron population samples.

D09: Design Thinking for the Masses: Creating a Culture of Empathy Across a Library Organization
Design thinking puts users at the forefront. It encourages us to practice empathy, observe our surroundings, question assumptions, and identify big problems. It then asks us to prototype and iterate on solutions. Inspired by the power of these concepts, University of Arizona Libraries initiated a library-wide design thinking project. This inclusive, collaborative effort guided strategic initiatives and put user experience in the minds of library employees at all levels.

D13: This is great, but can you make it red?: How to say no
WATCH ONLINE FOR FREE: http://events7.mediasite.com/Mediasite/Play/deaf29fb9059444f82943885eb0e8c301d

Many of us know backseat design: Can you make this red? Can you move this over here? Why don’t we do it this way instead? While our colleagues often have great intentions, these requests can undermine informed design choices and distract from the bigger picture. This talk offers ideas on how to resist flights-of-fancy without causing conflict, explains why they happen, and explains the importance of standing your ground as a designer.

D17-01: Use It or Lose It: Engaging CORA Users with Task Scenarios
CORA (Community of Online Research Assignments) is an open educational resource launched in 2016. This short talk describes task-based usability testing done on the site to investigate how well users could find the results they wanted when searching for information literacy materials and how success could be improved. Six librarians and one faculty member were assigned tasks in random order from a list of eight possible task scenarios. Resulting improvements were made to the site.
